\"Juvederm\"JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae is a facial filler that temporarily softens wrinkles, creases and folds by filling in areas with volume loss. It is composed of hyaluronic acid \u2013 a substance that plays a key part in the aging process and has revolutionized the world of fillers. As we age, we lose hyaluronic acid and collagen begins to break down. Injectable fillers like JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae, Restylane<\/a>\u00ae and Perlane\u00ae start working immediately to replenish and volumize areas that have lost support and structure due to the aging process. JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae is often injected into wrinkles, creases, folds and other sunken areas of the face to rejuvenate and revitalize the skin. Treatment only takes approximately 15 minutes, but the effects can last 6 months or longer.<\/p>\n

I inject most of the various fillers available in the marketplace. Our experience is that certain fillers work slightly better in specific areas of the face than others. Furthermore, some patients have a strong preference for a specific filler because they obtained good results with it in the past. For both of these reasons, we like to provide our patients with choices.<\/p>\n

I am one of the relatively few plastic surgeons in Pittsburgh who inject JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae with microcannulas<\/a> to decrease the chance of bruising and swelling. In addition to reducing the likelihood of bruising and other complications, the microcannula technique is more comfortable and often allows for an even better cosmetic result.<\/p>\n

Instructions After Treatment<\/h2>\n

Avoid vigorous exercise, touching the area, or drinking alcohol six hours after JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae injections. Also if you notice swelling or redness at the injection site, avoid hot or extremely cold weather and apply an ice pack to reduce inflammation and puffiness.<\/p>\n

What is the difference between JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae Ultra XC and JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae Ultra Plus XC?<\/h2>\n

One of the benefits of JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae is that it is versatile. There are two formulas to choose from: JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae Ultra and JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae Ultra Plus XC. Both formulas are very similar, but differ in consistency. JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae Ultra is a more versatile gel that is great for smoothing away wrinkles and folds, contouring the face and filling in lips. JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae Ultra XC Plus is a thicker, more robust formula that works well in deep crevices and folds. Both JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae Ultra XC and JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae Ultra Plus XC contain lidocaine, which makes the injection more comfortable.<\/p>\n

Is JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae suitable for persons of color and different skin tones?<\/h2>\n

Yes, JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae is FDA approved and considered safe and effective for the treatment of all skin types. Since it is injected below the epidermis, it does not affect the upper layer of skin that contains cells responsible for skin pigmentation; therefore there is very little risk of hyperpigmentation or hyper-tropic scarring.<\/p>\n

Do JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae Injections hurt?<\/h2>\n

Pain tolerance varies for each patient. However, I find that most patients find the procedure extremely tolerable, with very little discomfort. When injected by a skilled and experienced injector, JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae flows easily and smoothly into the skin. Since I perform all of the JUV\u00c9DERM\u00ae injections in my Pittsburgh practice, every treatment is done with precision, detail and skill.<\/p>\n
