When people think of Botox<\/a> or Dysport<\/a>, they typically think of the cosmetic procedure that people undergo to treat fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Little do most people know that Botox and Dysport can help with hyperhidrosis which is the medical condition for excessive sweating. In 2004, the FDA approved Botox to treat hyperhidrosis. How does it work? The sweat secretions of the eccrine glands are weakened by the botulinum toxin injections which inhibits Acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter, from being released. The pain level from the injections is relatively mild due to the fact that the underarms are a pretty \u201cfleshy\u201d area. The treatments on average last anywhere from about four to six months, so the longevity of the result is very satisfactory.<\/p>\n
